Stroud Safety, a leading name in racing safety equipment, unveiled its highly anticipated new firesuit at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show, delivering an innovative combination of breathability, lightweight materials and unmatched flexibility for racers.
After four years of development, the new SFI 20-rated firesuit is a testament to Stroud Safety’s commitment to innovation and protection. Constructed with a breathable, lighter-weight fabric, the suit is significantly more comfortable and flexible than traditional firesuits, enhancing a racer’s range of motion while maintaining the rigorous safety standards required for professional motorsports.
“This suit is a game-changer,” said Tommy Cunningham, owner of Stroud Safety. “Mine weighs less than seven and a half pounds, which is incredibly light for an SFI 20 suit. The increased flexibility makes movement much easier, and the breathable fabric ensures greater comfort for drivers during long, demanding events.”
Stroud Safety began developing the fabric in 2020, working tirelessly to source and refine the material.
“We didn’t manufacture the fabric ourselves,” explained Cunningham. “Instead, we partnered with a builder and spent four years testing and perfecting it. Once we had a fabric sample, we sent it to SFI for rigorous testing and approval. Just two weeks ago, we officially passed SFI testing, and now we’re thrilled to introduce it to the racing community.”
Cunningham personally tested the suit in various settings, including a half-day trial in Stroud Safety’s Oklahoma City office.
“This is the most comfortable suit I’ve ever worn,” he noted. “Having worn other brands before owning Stroud, I can confidently say this suit stands out for its comfort and performance.”
The firesuit debuted at PRI with immediate success. The initial release features an SFI 20-rated option, with an SFI 15-rated version in development to accommodate racers who don’t require the higher rating.
Customizable embroidery and design options are still available with this new material, ensuring racers get the same personalized experience Stroud Safety is known for. The suit will make its competitive debut at the upcoming World Series of Pro Mod, with Cunningham himself wearing the new design.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response at PRI,” Cunningham said. “This new firesuit represents years of dedication and collaboration, and we’re excited to see it on tracks across the world.”
