QUICK 32 SPORTSMAN SERIES READY FOR LABOUR DAY WEEKEND AT TORONTO MOTORSPORTS PARK
Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Teams Set for Two Days of Competition During John Scotti Canadian Championship Series NHRA National Open Double-Header
CAYUGA, ON (September 1, 2026) — The Quick 32 Sportsman Series returns to Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, this Labour Day Weekend, September 4–6, bringing together high-horsepower Top Dragster and Top Sportsman teams for the John Scotti Canadian Championship Series as part of the NHRA National Open double-header during Toronto Motorsports Park’s Labour Day Weekend Spectacular.
Established in 2009, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series gives Top Dragster and Top Sportsman competitors an opportunity to compete at special events, showcasing two very different styles of high-performance Sportsman drag racing.
The weekend will feature two complete days of Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition, with qualifying and eliminations Saturday and Sunday following a Test & Tune session Friday.
Adding to the significance of the Labour Day Weekend event, competitors will be racing for a special piece of NHRA history. As part of NHRA’s 75th Anniversary celebration in 2026, event champions will have the opportunity to take home the commemorative 75th Anniversary Diamond Wally, a special edition of drag racing’s most recognizable trophy.
For Quick 32 Sportsman Series competitors, that puts even more on the line during the John Scotti Canadian Championship Series as part of the NHRA National Open double-header. With two complete races scheduled Saturday and Sunday, teams will have two opportunities over the weekend to earn an NHRA Wally — and make their mark during NHRA’s historic 75th Anniversary season.
K&K Racing and Wilson & Gray Racing have competed in and supported the Quick 32 Sportsman Series from the beginning, becoming familiar fixtures in Top Sportsman competition throughout the Series’ history.
K&K Racing of Stratford, Ontario, returns with Kayden Wicke driving the team’s 2006 Dodge Stratus. Kevin Wicke captured back-to-back Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series titles in 2009 and 2010, while Kayden captured Top Sportsman and Overall Quick 32 Sportsman Series honours at Empire Dragway in 2024.
Wilson & Gray Racing, with drivers Rob Gray of Salford, Ontario, and Bill Wilson of Ingersoll, Ontario, returns as the defending event winner. The team captured the 2025 John Scotti Canadian Championship Series NHRA National Open in Quick 32 Sportsman Series Top Sportsman competition as well as the 2025 WDRA Canadian Nationals Top Sportsman title. Wilson & Gray Racing was also the 2013 Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series Champion.
Dave Burchell of Guelph, Ontario, a regular Quick 32 Sportsman Series competitor, returns to Top Sportsman with Team Dave and his 2007 Pontiac GTO. Powered by a 582 CID Big Block Chevy with a ProCharger, Burchell will once again be a familiar presence in the Quick 32 field at Toronto Motorsports Park.
David J. Powell of Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, will make the trip to Cayuga with Powell Racing’s 2012 Ford Shelby. A several-time Newfoundland Super Pro Series Champion, Powell finished third in the 2025 John Scotti Canadian Championship Series Top Dragster/Top Sportsman Division.
The Top Dragster side of the field will feature equally impressive credentials, including2024 PDRA Elite Top Dragster World Champion Kyle Harris of Burford, Ontario. Harris will bring his unmistakable supercharged 1932 Austin Bantam, “The Altered Beast,” to Cayuga. Harris followed his world championship season with two PDRA event victories in 2025 and a third-place finish in the championship standings.
Peter Carpenter of Woodstock, New Brunswick, arrives at Cayuga having already earned two NHRA Wally trophies in 2026 in John Scotti Canadian Championship Series Top Sportsman/Top Dragster competition. Carpenter was also the 2024 championship runner-up.
Brooklyn Noakes of Ilderton, Ontario, comes into Labour Day Weekend following a victory at Grand Bend Motorplex on August 8 and has earned five NHRA Wally trophies over the past two seasons. A third-generation drag racer, Brooklyn follows her grandfather Brian and father Paul, who continues the family tradition behind the wheel of the Wheeler Dealer Funny Car and will also compete at Toronto Motorsports Park this weekend.
Madison Graham of Cayuga, Ontario, brings a hometown presence to the Top Dragster field with 2G Racing’s Frameworks Dragster, powered by a 406 CID Small Block.
Joe Angione of Bradford, Ontario, joins the Top Dragster field with Angione Brothers Racing’s 235-inch Spitzer Hardtail Dragster, powered by a 565 CID engine with single-stage nitrous oxide.
“We have a great mix of experienced Quick 32 Sportsman Series competitors and teams coming from Ontario and across Eastern Canada,” said Bruce Mehlenbacher of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series. “That is what makes this Series special. Top Sportsman and Top Dragster teams bring very different race cars together, and when eliminations begin, the competition is outstanding.”
Competitors will also have the opportunity to earn valuable NHRA grade points, which help determine eligibility for major NHRA events, while racing for one of the special 75th Anniversary Diamond Wally trophies being awarded during NHRA’s historic 2026 season.
Adding another element to Sunday’s competition will be the Engineered Racing Services Bounty Hunter Award. Saturday’s Quick 32 Sportsman Series winner will return Sunday with a bounty on their team. The competitor who defeats Saturday’s winner will collect the bounty — but if Saturday’s winner doubles up and wins again Sunday, they will claim the bounty themselves.
“I cannot wait to get back to Toronto Motorsports Park for the Labour Day Weekend Spectacular,” said John Scotti. “The calibre of entries this weekend will be outstanding.”
The Quick 32 Sportsman Series will compete alongside the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series, Nostalgia Super Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street and Junior Dragster. Toronto Motorsports Park’s Labour Day Weekend Spectacular will also feature jet-powered dragsters, Pro Modified racing, live music and camping.
Labour Day Weekend activities will get underway Thursday, September 3 at 6:00 p.m. with WHEN SECONDS COUNT — Race Car Emergency Extrication, a realistic, controlled demonstration showing how first responders and motorsports safety personnel work together during a serious racing incident. Haldimand County firefighters, NHRA motorsports safety personnel and emergency-response specialists will participate, and the public is welcome to attend.
