Austin Prock powered his Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS Funny Car to the No. 2 spot in provisional qualifying Friday at the 19th Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. The reigning Funny Car world champion opened with a 3.936-second run at 327.74 mph in the heat of the day—standing as the only Funny Car driver to dip below four seconds in the first session—then followed up with a 3.900 at 331.28 mph under cooler evening conditions.
“Good day here in Norwalk,” said Prock, who also leads the point standings and owns the track record. “We were low of the first session by a pretty big chunk, which definitely felt good. We made a decent pass in the second session to put us No. 2 at the end of the day, but we gathered up five qualifying bonus points, which is nice, and we’re looking forward to tomorrow and the #2Fast2Tasty Challenge. Hopefully, we can make two more clean runs and walk away with some more points, cash and some hardware.”

Teammate Jack Beckman also delivered a pair of strong runs, going 4.012 and then 3.913 at 321.35 mph to land fourth in the provisional order in the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevy SS.
“We are chasing some rough weather conditions here,” said Beckman, a three-time Norwalk winner. “It’s a good track, but it’s hot, and we’re adjusting our power level to get it back to what this car needs to be able to push hard to run near the top of the pack. The good news is we missed it a little bit in both Friday sessions, and we still were fourth best in each of them. The better news is that with the data we have, we’re fairly certain we know how to address it for tomorrow and Sunday.”

In Top Fuel, Brittany Force showed strong form in Friday’s heat with a 3.784-second, 331.77 mph blast in her Chevrolet Accessories dragster—the best of the first session. Unable to improve in the evening session, Force ended the day in the No. 4 provisional qualifying position.
“The second session, we just pushed a little too hard and unfortunately, we didn’t get down there,” said Force, who posted a 6.346 in the night session. “So, we’re looking forward to two more runs tomorrow, most likely in the heat, before we head into race day on Sunday.”
Prock and Beckman will also compete Saturday in the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, with bonus points and cash on the line.
