Photo Review: 2025 IHRA Columbus

For the first time in over 20 years, the smell of Nitromethane permeated the air at an IHRA event. The new IHRA held its inaugural race in the Outlaw Nitro Series at Darana Raceway east of Columbus.

While Mother Nature tried to put a damper on things by forcing the event to be completed on Sunday morning, the event went off as well-organized and professional. The future could be bright for the new IHRA. The next event in the series is July 24-26 in Milan, Michigan. Photos by Dave Oakes highlight the action.

#1 qualifier Scott Palmer won the top fuel crown and $50,000 with a 3.95 – 314.24 run over fan favorite Krista Baldwin.

Ohio’s own Mike McIntire also took home $50,000 by putting a holeshot on Del Worsham in the funny car final. 4.166 to Worsham’s quicker 4.160.

Frankie “Mad Man” Taylor took home the Pro Mod win when Mike DiDominico had to shut off at the line.

Larry Morgan was the winner in Pro Stock when Derrick Reese lit the red bulb.

Bob Malloy outran Jay Turner for the Top Fuel Harley win 5.34-204.01 to Turner’s 5.49-193.

Tony Wilson ran 3.79 – 204.64 to win the Pro Nitrous category when Dale Brinsfield nearly went airborne at half track and lifted.

Stan Sipos took a holeshot win over Phillip Esz with a 5.505 to Esz’s quicker 5.49 in top alcohol funny car.

Janie Fricke used a .006 reaction time to outrun Mike Coughlin in the top alcohol dragster final.

Jerry Tucker cut a better light to win a close final in mountain motor pro stock over Chris Powers.

#1 qualifier in mountain motor pro stock was Jeremy Huffman at 4.12.

Pro mod qualifying was led by Jason Lee at 3.675.

Doug Foley set low E.T. and top speed for the top fuelers at a stout 3.82-321.98.
