Keith Haney has a new weapon, and it has a name to match its intentions.
The veteran racer and promoter this week pulled the wraps off “Gladiator,” a new nitrous-fed Pro Mod Camaro that marks the official launch of his KB Titan Pro Mod program. The car was built by Quarter-Max, the Galesburg, Illinois, operation owned by Clyde Scott – who also owns Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris, Texas – and it arrives dressed in a striking wrap from Kryptonite Kustomz.
For Haney, the build is as much about relationships as it is about horsepower.
“Quarter-Max has done an outstanding job,” Haney said. “I can tell you, Clyde and I have been friends a long time and his attention to detail is second to none. I believe every car should have a name and believe it or not Clyde help me pick out the name and Kryptonite Kustomz knocked it out of the park with this wrap.”
Under the hood, the combination reads like a who’s who of nitrous Pro Mod. The Camaro is powered by a Pat Musi Racing Engines-built powerplant – one of the most decorated engine programs in nitrous door-car racing – outfitted with the latest nitrous oxide injection from Switzer Dynamics. It’s a pairing built to run at the front, and Haney isn’t hiding his ambitions for the program.
“This is just the start of the KB Titan Pro Mod program,” Haney said, “and I can promise you there is a lot more to come.”
That promise carries weight coming from Haney, a racer who has never done anything halfway. Between his own driving career and his work building race programs and events, he has spent years around the highest levels of the sport. Assembling a group like Quarter-Max, Pat Musi Racing Engines and Switzer Dynamics under the KB Titan banner signals that this is meant to be a serious, sustained push rather than a one-off entry.
The name fits the mission. “Gladiator” is built for combat – a car meant to walk into some of the toughest nitrous Pro Mod battles in the country and hold its own against blown and turbocharged competition alike. And with a wrap that turns heads before the car ever fires, it will be impossible to miss whenever it rolls into the water box.
“We’ve got great hot rods in our camp right now – there’s no doubt, but to be competitive in Outlaw Pro Mod competition, potentially compete against boosted cars, we knew we had to have something that was purpose-built for the mission, and that’s what we have here.”
As for when that first pass comes, Haney is keeping the racing world guessing.
“When it’ll hit the track, I don’t know,” he said, “but people definitely will know when it does.”
It’s a classic Haney line – equal parts confidence and showmanship – and it sets the stage for what should be one of the more closely watched Pro Mod debuts of the season. The KB Titan program is officially off the ground. The engine builder is proven. The chassis shop is elite. The nitrous package is cutting-edge.
Now the sport waits for “Gladiator” to make its first hit – and, if Haney has his way, its first statement.
Whenever that day comes, expect the entire Pro Mod community to be watching. And expect Keith Haney to make sure they don’t look away.
