The inaugural AJPE Shakedown at M-Town at US 131 Motorsports Park lived up to its name, delivering the fastest Pro Mod field in the history of the Mid-West Drag Racing Series, and among them was Keith Haney Racing.
Teams faced a unique challenge throughout the weekend, adjusting to an unfamiliar track surface due to the combination of radial and slick-tire cars competing at the same event. Despite the tricky conditions and ever-changing weather, Haney posted a strong 3.637 at 206.71 mph during qualifying, securing the no. 13 spot and setting up a first-round matchup with eventual event winner Jeff Rudolf.
Haney was sharp off the line, grabbing the early lead with a stellar .013 reaction time to Rudolf’s .036. He held the advantage until around the 330-foot mark, when disaster struck – the crank trigger failed, triggering a massive nitrous backfire and abruptly ending Haney’s weekend.
Undeterred, the team tore down the engine, made the necessary repairs, and will be ready for the next MWDRS stop at Flying H Drag Strip in Odessa, Missouri, for the Summer Smackdown, June 27–28.
