The popular father-son Funny Car racing pair of Chad and Hunter of Midland, Texas, recognizes the history of the legendary Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio, as they bring their two 12,000-horsepower, nitro-burning monsters to this weekend’s (June 27-29) Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals drag races.
Led by the renowned Bader family, the Summit Motorsports Park racing facility has annually produced some of the largest crowds in the NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series, as well as some of the most outstanding straight-line action seen throughout North America. And this year’s edition figures to be another classic.
Hunter Green, only in his fourth NHRA national event in a Funny Car, upset four-time NHRA world champion Matt Hagan in the first round of eliminations at the NHRA Virginia Nationals last Sunday in incredibly hot conditions with a track surface reaching 145 degrees. The 30-year-old racer from Midland, Texas, drove the Pronto Auto Service Centers Dodge Hellcat to a close victory over Hagan’s Hellcat with a 4.064-second clocking to a 4.088.
“To be honest, I’m learning about the Funny Cars in a variety of different settings – The Four-Wide at Las Vegas and Charlotte, the bumpy track at Bristol, and now the heat and humidity at Richmond,” said H. Green. “But I am really looking forward to the Summit Racing Nationals and the legendary track at Norwalk. The race gets big crowds, and the racing is usually outstanding. So, my learning process in the Funny Car continues with an excellent track and great fans.”
Chad Green, the 2025 NHRA Gatornationals champion, is seeking a little luck at Norwalk in his CGM Bond-Coat Ford Mustang Funny Car after a series of extremely close races in which the Texas driver has been on the wrong end of the win lights. Currently eighth in the NHRA Mission Funny Car points standings, Green and his nitro-burning machine have performed well with solid times, only to be nipped at the finish line by inches in some cases
Last week at Richmond, former world champion Ron Capps beat C. Green with a 4.032 to a 4.047 in the opening round.
“At Richmond, with the hot weather and tough track surface, it was a challenge for all of the nitro Teams,” said C. Green. “Now, we are anxious to go to Norwalk this weekend after Hunter’s good performance this past weekend. Our cars have been running well, but the summer weather makes it tough to get down the track with these 12,000-horsepower cars. Our team has been very impressed with Hunter’s driving with his limited experience. These cars are not easy to drive.”
The two Chad Green Motorsports Funny Car drivers will be back in competition this weekend (June 27-29) at the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Nitro action begins Friday, June 27, with qualifying sessions at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. EDT. Saturday’s qualifying runs will be at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., with final eliminations scheduled for 11 a.m. EDT on Sunday, June 29.
The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at the Summit Motorsports Park will be televised this Sunday at 2 p.m. EDT on the FOX Network.
