Alan Drinkwater Claims Second PDRA Extreme Pro Stock World Championship

Two years after Alan Drinkwater hoisted his first Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series world championship trophy, the Florida native captured another title in AED Competition Extreme Pro Stock to close out the 2025 season. Drinkwater in his Kaase-powered Flatout Gaskets ’08 Mustang won four races in five final-round appearances across the seven-race season to become just the fourth driver in series history to win multiple Extreme Pro Stock world championships.

After winning the 2023 PDRA Extreme Pro Stock title, Drinkwater and his team took a year off from PDRA competition. When they returned at the 2025 season-opening East Coast Nationals at GALOT Motorsports Park, Drinkwater raced to a runner-up finish behind defending world champion Chris Powers. Two races later, Drinkwater made it back to the winner’s circle when he defeated Mountain Motor Pro Stock veteran Elijah Morton in the final round at the North vs. South Shootout at Maryland International Raceway.

“I would say the most memorable part of the season was probably when we turned the first [final-round] win light on this year,” Drinkwater says. “We made it to the first final. I goofed it up at the next race, then we won Maryland. When we turned on that last win light, it was just like, ‘OK, we’re back. We can do it.’”

With his confidence fully restored, Drinkwater stayed on a roll through the second half of the season. He won the Northern Nationals at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, reached the semifinals at the Thunder Valley Throwdown at Bristol Dragway, and won the final two events of the season, DragWars at GALOT Motorsports Park and the Brian Olson Memorial World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park. The last win was a bonus, as Drinkwater secured the championship when he qualified for the World Finals.

“We came here in ’23, first time out running Extreme Pro Stock, and we clinched the championship in probably one of the most competitive fields in PDRA history,” Drinkwater said. “We didn’t race any PDRA last year, and to come back and repeat it again just makes us feel real good.”

Drinkwater shared in the celebration with his team, which includes his cousin, Preston Drinkwater, longtime Extreme Pro Stock racer Tony Gillig, and racing partner Kenny Floyd.

“I just want to thank God and give Him all the glory,” Drinkwater said. “I thank my wife for all the support – he’s at home keeping things together – and my mom and dad and everybody that supports us to get here. I give it all to my crew – Kenny, David, Mike, Scott, Preston, Rosco. Tony Gillig with Flatout Gaskets. Jay with AED has been a critical part with us and helps us get every ounce of Kaase horsepower we can out of it. We think we’ve got something for everybody and we’re just going to try to keep capitalizing and making good runs. We’re looking forward to what’s next.”

Drinkwater’s closest challenger for the championship was Jeremy Huffman, who competed in Pro 632 before moving up to Extreme Pro Stock, just like Drinkwater. Driving his 3V Performance-powered ’10 Cobalt, Huffman earned his first career win in the class at the Mid-Atlantic Showdown at VMP and picked up his third career No. 1 qualifier award at the Northern Nationals to finish second in the points standings. Young gun Jordan Ensslin finished third in a career-best season that saw the driver of the Allen-powered “Seabiscuit” ’09 Mustang get his first career win at Bristol and his first and second career No. 1 qualifier awards at the final two races of the season. Ensslin finished runner-up to Drinkwater at those last two races, but beat him in the final round of the Summit Racing Equipment PDRA ProStars all-star event held during the World Finals.

The Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series will celebrate its 2025 world champions at the PDRA Championship Awards Banquet on Friday, Dec. 12 during the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show weekend in Indianapolis.
