Nick has love for all kinds of muscle cars, and the engines that power them. But the 426 Hemi has always held a special place in his heart. Today, he has a couple of elephants in the shop, one of which will be screaming on the dyno.

Yes, I am aware of the wing nut that went loose.
Phil maybe more opinionated then you Nick 🙂
George that was some good tension building music you chose……I agree
I grew up at the machine shop here in canada that builds record setting hemis for Wendell Howes
HEY NICK,
Tim here again……i need ur help…my shop has a '69 GTX Hemi/727/Air Grabber, #'s matchin car….high dollar resto done (1 of 98)….its GORGEOUS!!……rear main leaks horribly, we were tasked to try to fix it……we took the pan off, and it has an aftermarket cap for the rear main seal……(we've heard bad things about it)…..we're tryin to do this with motor staying in car…..it's like brand new…..when we took the cap off, there was no rtv on the side seals….so we thought we found the culprit…..main seal looked good, and even had assembly lube on it (outside)…so we thought it was ok…..we bought a new rearmain seal, put rtv on the sides, all over, and put it back together, fired it up, still leaks like a sieve……local MOPAR guru said alot of the billet caps leak bad, so we had him find a stock one in his archives……if we go that route, what are we missing, or what did these engine dudes do?……YOU DIDNT RUN IT ON AN ENGINE STAND/DYNO FIRST???, B4 PUTING IT IN THIS HIGH $, #'S MATCHING RARE CAR??……i said the motor has to come out to do it rite……they all think we can fix it without doin so…….PLEASE, if you read ur comments, PLEASE give insight to our problem….the car is BEAUTIFUL, and the HEMI's rear main leaks horrid!!!…HELP!!
My grandfather had 6 of these motors
That in car video at track the sound of that engine reving changing gears to redline ABSOLUTE MUSIC TO MY EARS NOTHING BETTER NATURALLY ASPIRATED HEMI POWER
Wonder how much more HP & TQ it makes on track with the ram air effect functioning
Great video
Hear her scream 😱
How much is a 5 gallon can of race gas now ? Like $150 ? If we ignore politics, they're going to take away affordable fuel, and these cars will gather dust, and rot. We can't just continue to fiddle while Rome burns. I'm already seeing many cars numbers matching being sold for heavy discounts. 50% or less here in northeastern USA.
Rules are meant to be broken, secrets are meant to be kept, ancient Chinese philosophy.
Hi Nick. I e
was Watching those win nuts I thought they were gonna drop down they didn't take Manifold.
That ain't no "Race Hemi" . Maybe a stock class contender Click bait at best..
Lots of great nostalgia mentioned with the pictures shown here, Nick! Like Phil and your green '71 Hemicuda with a bit of weight removed from the front end and the lead added inside the rear bumper for ballast and all set up for street racing! How cool was that?! I remember back in July '93 Phil racing that same 'cuda against a fast 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 at Napierville. The Buick won but so what? Like you say, you win some and lose some no matter what you drive! The exhaust note on that Hemicuda sure sounded mean and raspy. And Phil looks just as young and handsome now as he did then!
HELLO NICK, JUST SOME THOUGHTS, LOOK AT THE RULE BOOK AND FIND THE THE AREAS THEY DONT TALK ABOUT. IN THE ENGINE AND CAR.. AND REMEMBER TO READ BETWEEN THE LINES OF THE RULES.. PLUS THE MAIN THING IN A DRAG RACE ENGINE IS THE ROTATING ASSEMBLEY WEIGHT, CRANK LITGHTENING, LONGER RODS, LIGHTER PISTONS, THINNER RINGS, LOW TENSION OIL RINGS,LESS FRICTION,THINNER STEM LIGHTER VALVES,TITANIUM IF ALLOWED, LOWER OIL PRESSURE, VACCUM PUMPS..LIGHTER TAILSHAFTS, HOLLOW DIFF AXELS.. I KNOW ITS ALL MONEY…. SLOWLY SLOWLY…..MY OLD BOSS TOUGHT ME ALL THIS STUFF, HE WON A TRUCK FULL OF TITLES AND TROPHEYS, #1 SUPER STOCK MANY MANY TIMES HERE IN AUSTRALIA… KEEP WELL AND YASSOU PATRIOTI…
This was a awesome video!! Thank you for sharing.
CooL
You can see their brothers telling each other what to do lol. Love it
Most impressive engine ever! Without a doubt !
7300 RPMs?? Geez, a bone stock 426 Hemi is pretty much all over with before 5500. The cam in your brother's motor must have some pretty serious duration along with that limited lift that you can legally run. I'm assumimg that there is no rules about the duration of the cam, as long as the lift is within spec?
Lol, the lobes on that flat tappet cam must look more like rectangles, like a solid roller does. Mopars can take advantage of more aggressive lobe profiles with flat tappet cams because of those huge diameter lifters. A BIG bonus for an NHRA stocker.
A.R.H (American Racing Headers) makes a VERY nice set of Stainless 304 headers for popular Chassis/Engine combos. They are $1500, but worth it. They have merge collectors built in, nice thick flanges, and come with band clamps for collector extensions. I got a set for my G-Body Cutlass with a big block Olds, 2" tubes, 3.5" collectors, and they are the nicest fitting and performing set of headers I've ever installed on the car. With the starter out, and the oil filter off, they both slid right in from the bottom with no effort. They are WAY better than the goofy $900 Hooker Super Comp
1 7/8" with the 2-piece design that has the one tube that wraps around the frame. Being stainless, it'll be the last set of headers you'll ever buy also.
2 tables full of air cleaner parts .it's a good thing it's functional
Larmo from laughlin.. thank you nick and Phil. I used to sit at the back of my 71 or 440, after an oil change. Start the car grab a beer and sit in between the exhaust. This was the best sounding motor on you tube. Hands down. It just doesn't get any hemier than that folks. Nick n Phil your efforts and knowledge n expierence is very apparent thank you gentlemen.. move over. Plymouth arriving rapidly…
You know these 2 got some serious trick moves they can put on a motor. That old school trick stuff. Love this video.
The reason you lost torque with those headers is just like every other person that talk s*** about hooker headers, quit buying hooker competition headers for your race car and putting race car headers on your engine instead of hooker supercomp five dyno runs all header changes. The best headers for the big block I found was the hooker super competition headers, not the hooker comp headers, not the headmen headers, not the headmen with the big tube, not the Doug thorley. None of the other brands but hooker super comp headers. Not comp headers but super comp. There's a big difference. 40 horsepower difference between them and a headman brand of the same tube diameter and every other brand I've ever tried. It was at least 20
👍This video is awesome! Nothing like hearing a high revving Hemi!
Nothing like an older brother telling you what to do in your profession …..and at 65 years old.😜
You guys are a little older than I am. I'd like to meet you before it's too late for one of us.
💯😁TRUE HISTORY 🌹😎🇺🇸
Amazing story…
This was a really good video. I think you should have Phil on more. He says what I'm thinking. A little spooky actually, but a good spooky. 🙂 His input was perfect.
I damaged a stock 327 while trying to adjust a Q-Jet lockout tab. I immediately shut it down when the tab broke off. My friend INSISTED he saw it fall onto the manifold. Restart. Rap rap rap rap.
I had a friend who built dirt track engines and had an interesting technique. While an engine was running, he leaned his belly on the driver-side valve cover, placed his left hand on the passenger valve cover, turned his left ear towards the timing chain/gear, and looked down the carburetor. With one pull, he could quickly zero in on a problem. I saw him sort out a Hemi drag car that way. In a few seconds, he was able to show the owners that the builder had left break-in springs on the valves. Fortunately, it ran so bad it had not hurt itself on the track. Love your content Nick. My late dad was French Canadien. You remind me of him.
I love this channel. Born in 1966, I was too young to participate in the greatest era for muscle cars. I got into cars in the 80s, bought a few mustangs, and raced them up into the early 90s. Never owned something as cool as a Hemi. Thanks Nick, I appreciate the sharing of knowledge. From Idaho, my hat off to you and your shop.

I notice that ALL Oldest Brothers are BOSSY and DEMANDING… HA!
Is there any horsepower of gains by using synthetic versus conventional oil
I love leaded fuel, and can tell by the smell
Born in 1959 my babby sitters had me hanging out at the dealership and sending me with the test drive to make sure cars came back. Spent more time sliding around the back seat
Love your videos Nick. You are I are the same age, and where I grew up we had our street races too. Our "strip" too was a dead end pretty much by itself and nothing close. Kind of comical now because our county courthouse sits about where our starting line was.
