What’s faster in a drag race… a Formula 1 car or a Tesla Model S P100D?
Note: The Moose test was not to official spec, meaning the speeds are higher than official results.

Tesla’s are known all over the internet for their incredible torque – and for beating tried and tested cars in drag races. But the ultimate test is against an F1 car.

What better way to launch our new YouTube channel than to drag race a Tesla and a Formula One car?

We run these two cars through four challenges: a standing quarter-mile, a rolling quarter-mile, 0-100-0mph acceleration and brake test and finally, our favourite, the Moose Test.

The Tesla P100D has 500kW (671 hp) and 701 lb-ft of torque. It is all-wheel-drive and can accelerate to 62mph in 2..7 seconds – reaching a top speed of 155 mph.

This Formula 1 car is a V10 Benetton with 770 hp. It only weighs 525kg, so the power-to-weight ratio is in fact higher than a modern F1 car at 1466 hp/ton. Safe to say, it’s very fast!

Why no Plaid? Well they are pretty hard to get hold of in the UK – but are looking to run the test again in the future! If you have one, get in touch!

  2. Making an F1 car do a drag race is like making a gymnast do the shot put. Makes zero sense. It’s not “the ultimate competitor”.

All this accomplishes is the reinforcement that all evs are good for is the one pony trick of straight line acceleration. No one takes them to the track because it would be an utter embarrassment.

Also, note that the guy driving the tesla said he was terrified and excited because of the F1 car.

    Sound matters folks.

  3. Modern 1.6 turbo 2021 F1 cars might be the fastest cars ever built but when I heard that V10 roar sweet childhood memories came back to me🥺
