It was a tough week for the drag racing community. We lost Lizzy Musi, Ron Hope, and Rodger Richards on top of John Force’s crash. However, close races, upsets, and new track records did their part to lighten the mood at the 18th Annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park. Gage Herrera extended his win streak to 11 races when Matt Smith crossed the center line in the final.
Greg Anderson qualified #1 at 6.592 but shook the tires and lost to Larry Morgan in round one.
Antron Brown took home a very popular win in top fuel with a 3.736 run over Doug Kalitta, who went 3.747.
Under tremendous pressure, Austin Prock qualified #1 at 3.583, won the Mission 2Fast2Tasty Challenge but lost to Tasca in the semis.
Matt Smith reset the pro stock motorcycle track record with a 6.478 #1 qualifying effort
Bob Tasca ran consistently quick all weekend to win Funny Car with a 3.908 over an up-in-smoke Ron Capps.
Lenny Lottig’s “Grumpy’s Toy” outran Aaron Stanfield for the factory x crown 7.09 to Stanfield’s 7.15.
Stanfield made up for that loss by winning pro stock over Dallas Glenn, who shook and shut off.
Doug Kalitta nearly ran the table. New track record at 337,16, #1 qualifier, Mission 2Fast2Tasty win and runner-up finish.
Sean Bellemeur continues to dominate alcohol funny car by defeating Maddie Gordon.
Alex Laughlin joined the factory x 200mph club with a 201mph pass.
