There’s no place like home for Greg Anderson, and Norwalk’s Summit Motorsports Park feels a lot like home. On Saturday at the 18th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Anderson drove his Summit Racing-branded Chevrolet Camaro to a stellar sweep, claiming the 127th No. 1 qualifier award of his career and winning a second consecutive Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge title along the way.
“To come here to Summit Motorsports Park with the Summit Racing wrap on my car, it’s just a proud weekend for me,” said Anderson, who ran with Summit as his primary sponsor for many years and returned to form this weekend for their title event. “We’re off to a great start and had another great day.”
The 6.595-second pass at 204.94 mph that Anderson threw down in the final round of the Mission Challenge was a pleasant surprise on a day that had started with pouring rain and developed into a mixed bag with cooler air and track temperature drudged down by humidity. His KB Titan Racing Summit Racing Equipment/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro was ready for anything on Saturday in Norwalk, and so was the five-time world champion as he left the starting line ahead of Erica Enders, .024 to .052, before decisively closing down his opponent’s 6.619.
In the first round of the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, Anderson left the starting line with a .023 launch next to Aaron Stanfield’s .027, and he pulled further and further away, utilizing the plentiful horsepower for which the esteemed KB Titan Racing brand is known. Anderson’s win light came on as he clocked a 6.611 to 6.655.
Along the way, the most winning driver in the history of Pro Stock qualified No. 1 for the third time this year on the strength of an out-of-the-box 6.592, 207.69 on Friday. Aside from a second-round snafu in which a broken part prevented a run, Anderson had low elapsed time in each qualifying round to claim a total of nine bonus points.
“My Summit Racing/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet ran great, and we found our way to another Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge win. We’re figuring this deal out,” said Anderson, who will race veteran Pro Stock competitor Larry Morgan in the first round of the main event. “We’ve got a great tune-up for tomorrow. The Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, that’s the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for me. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Eliminations for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals will begin at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 30th, at Summit Motorsports Park.
