The Southeast Gassers Association (SEGA) brought its unique brand of wheels-up, four-speed nostalgia drag racing to Jackson Dragway in Tennessee, and the fifth championship stop of 2025 delivered exactly what fans have come to expect – tight racing, dramatic finishes, and plenty of storylines that will be talked about long after the Hub City Hullabaloo.
Jackson, a town rooted in musical history as the birthplace of Rockabilly, proved the perfect backdrop for SEGA’s blend of old-school showmanship and raw horsepower. Presented by Don Baskin Truck Sales, the Hullabaloo lived up to its name with high-revving excitement and a crowd fully engaged in the drama of nostalgia drag racing.
In A/Gas, SEGA’s quickest and fastest machines, Ben Christopher finally broke through with his first win of the season in his Happy Daze Chevy II. Christopher, a frequent finalist in recent years, outpaced defending champion Leslie Horne under the westward-setting sun to claim the long-awaited victory. “Finally!” Christopher exclaimed, holding the gold cup in celebration after a string of runner-up finishes.
B/Gas once again came down to points leader Ken Rainwater and Tennessee’s own Charlie Lee, a rematch from Brainerd Motorsports Park. Lee qualified No. 1 and was looking for back-to-back wins, but Rainwater’s Renegade Chevy II edged him with a 5.78 to Lee’s 5.79, securing Rainwater’s third victory of 2025 and stretching his lead in the standings.
C/Gas saw top qualifier and points leader Jerren Perdue continue his dominance in the Stud Muffin Chevy II wagon. Perdue scored his third win of the season with a 6.03 in the final after opponent Alfred Adams fouled out at the start. Perdue’s consistency throughout eliminations kept him firmly in command of the category.
Super Stock once again highlighted the battle between the top two points leaders, Jerry Dean and Bryant Dalton Sr. Dean, the No. 1 qualifier, powered his Chevy II to a win over Dalton’s Ford Falcon in the final for his fourth victory of 2025. Dean credited his success to the efforts of his crew, especially crew chief Karen Mitchell.
SEGA’s A/FX category also provided a rematch from Brainerd. This time, Jeffry Ferguson’s Wild N Wooly Chevy II got the better of points leader Todd Wimberly’s Southern Comfort Ford Falcon. Ferguson’s 5.95 topped Wimberly’s 6.09, giving Ferguson his first-ever SEGA A/FX victory and shaking up the points chase.
With fresh winners, upsets, and championship implications across every category, the Hub City Hullabaloo lived up to the hype and then some. The Southeast Gassers now turn their attention to the eastern part of Tennessee for Mountain Madness at Knoxville Dragway, September 19-20, presented by MAHLE Pistons, before wrapping up the season with Gulfport’s “Cruise the Coast” doubleheader and the SEGA Finals at Shadyside Dragway.
