Havlik’s Fastest Street Car Shootout Tribute/Reunion Race Brings Legends to Cordova

By admin on August 21, 2025

Brian and Jesse Havlik attended Hot Rod Fastest Street Car Shootout as young adults, altering their lives forever. Making the trip from Iowa to Memphis in Brian’s mom’s Monte Carlo SS, the young men witnessed the baddest street cars and racers to ever do it. These events would lead the boys to a life of street cars, participating in drag-and-drive events and building all sorts of cars under the Hot Rods by Havliks banner.

In early 2024, Brian and Jesse decided they would host the first tribute race to that iconic Fastest Street Car Shootout moniker. The event was a single-day event that proved their passion and determination would be rewarded with a great turnout of cars and racers from the original events, as well as bringing current legends to race.

Annette Summer recalls, “I got a call last February (2024) asking if I still had the pink Camaro and if I’d like to attend and race. The car had been on jackstands since 1996, so it gave us a great reason to get it back out.”

The car is BACK! With several low 5-second E.T.s over the weekend, she showed the team still knows how to party. With Fulton power, a huge nitrous system, and a Lenco, the car was incredible to watch.

The event began with Annette lining up next to Randy Lambert’s iconic yellow 1967 Chevrolet Impala. This first race had the crowd on their feet with huge burnouts and a great side-by-side race. Summer really had to drive the car to stay ahead of Lambert, with her covering most of her lane as she made her way to a pass in the low 5s.

Other historic cars in attendance included the C.A.R.S. yellow and orange Camaros, Monty Burnie’s Bertha2 ‘56 Chevrolet, the yellow ‘60 Impala, a Richie Wyman green Chevelle (driven by Bruce Poulos), and Mike Thompson’s orange Chevelle. With “HUUUUUUUUGE Burnouts” announced by the legendary Al Tucci, the cars gave the fans a show each time they came to the line. Poulos took home the coveted Best Burnout trophy, awarded personally by Tucci, for his 300-foot, tire-shredding burnouts each time he came to the line.

The Havliks worked incredibly hard to bring as many of these iconic cars to the track again. And to have Tucci announcing such a collective of cars was the icing on the cake. Many racers made their way to the tower to tell stories, which only perpetuated the realization that cars are much more than just machines meant for getting us to work and back.

The event is a perfect opportunity for new legends to emerge and be mentioned next to the legends listed above.

New School Legends

The Fastest Street Car Shootout 2025 is hosted to find the current Fastest Street Car. With a heads-up format for seven classes, a new breed of legends was on site to try their hand at glory.

Being a street car is first and foremost in the rules and spirit of this event. And with racers like Matt Frost, Bryant Goldstone, Jason Hurley, Steve and Kyle Morris, Rich Bellmund, and Glenn Hunter Jr., you can bet that the competition was going to be fierce.

Goldstone and Robbins have been on a tear for the last three years, stacking up wins across the country. From drag-and-drives to heads-up races, the trophy room at Goldstone’s house is bursting at the seams. The team did it again this weekend, coming in as No. 1 qualifier with a 6.73 and taking the win in the FSC Outlaw class. Goldstone faced Nick Cryer in round two, barely taking the stripe by just a few thousandths. The finals pitted him against multi-time RMRW winner Jason Hurley, with Goldstone taking the win with a 6.57 to Hurley’s 7.06, both north of 200 mph. You can also add winning the Drag-and-Drive Shootout as well. He was undefeated against Steve Morris’ “Boostmaster” wagon, Nick Cryer, and Jason Hurley’s Meltdown Firebird. The guys left FSC with $8,000 in their pockets and all the trophies!

To compete in the Drag-and-Drive Shootout, not only did drivers have to complete a 65+ mile cruise along the Mississippi River, through small towns and insane traffic, they also had to have completed a national-level Drag-and-Drive (4+ days of racing) in the past. And with $10,000 on the line ($5,000 for each class), the racers were pulling out all the stops. Everyone made the round-trip, but not without issues. Tom McGilton and Jason Hurley were pulled over early on the route to double check everything. Matt Frost had an oil line brace come loose, resulting in his oil lines dragging the asphalt, eventually wearing holes through them.

The Hot Rods by Havlik’s Fastest Street Car Shootout tribute/reunion race will become as well known as the original. We are watching history in the making. The guys are already working on the 2026 event, so get ready for another huge party!
