Every February, drag radial racers from across North America and beyond flock to South Georgia Motorsports Park for perhaps the most prestigious event in radial racing. This year\u2019s Summit Racing Equipment Lights Out 16 \u2013 Radial Revolution is one of the most anticipated editions of promoter Donald Long\u2019s early-season extravaganza at Valdosta. With drag radial favorites like Stevie \u201cFast\u201d Jackson and Street Outlaws stars like Shawn \u201cMurder Nova\u201d Ellington set to compete, fans can expect a full weekend of wild and unpredictable small-tire action.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the headlining PTC and FuelTech Radial vs. the World, reigning and multi-time winner Stevie \u201cFast\u201d Jackson is a favorite to win yet again in his screw-blown Motion Raceworks \u201cShadow 3.0\u201d Camaro, which he debuted here last year. Jackson, who stepped away from RvW action to win a pair of NHRA Pro Mod world championships, proved that he\u2019s still one of the greats of the class by ripping off numerous 3.50-second passes to pick up the win. A week later, he charged to a semifinal finish on big tires at the Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod in the same car.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Racing for the $40,000 prize, Jackson will take on competitors like reigning FuelTech Radial Outlaws Racing Series RvW champion Chris Daniel, FuelTech\u2019s Luis de Leon, and NHRA U.S. Nationals and U.S. Street Nationals winner Ken Quartuccio.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not far behind RvW in terms of performance and excitement is TBM Brakes and ProCharger Pro 275 with its $20,000 prize. Tim Dutton picked up the win last year in his show-quality ProCharged Corvette. He\u2019ll face a deep field of contenders like Australian Grantley Schloss, who\u2019s coming off a win at the U.S. Street Nationals to carry the points lead into Valdosta, as well as defending Radial Outlaws champion Mo Hall, multi-class contender Lyle Barnett, radial OG Brad Edwards, and the father-son duo of Roger and Brylon Holder.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fans of\u00a0Street Outlaws<\/em>\u00a0and spinoffs like\u00a0No Prep King<\/em>s will recognize two big names on the Pro 275 entry list: Shawn \u201cMurder Nova\u201d Ellington and \u201cDaddy Dave\u201d Comstock. Ellington, the reigning No Prep Kings champion, is bringing his fan-favorite, sinister black Nova and Comstock is rolling in with his ProCharged Audi riding on 275s. With a combined Facebook following of around 5 million, these guys will bring many more eyeballs to the event. They\u2019re also eager to prove that they can compete against some of the toughest radial racers in the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

TRZ Motorsports and Energy Manufacturing Limited Drag Radial is another class to watch at Lights Out 16. It\u2019s turned into one of the most competitive classes in small-tire racing thanks to a cast of characters like many-time winner Shane Stack, Alabama farmer Chad Henderson, and radial royalty Jamie Hancock, who\u2019s leading the points after a runner-up finish at the U.S. Street Nationals. All eyes are on the winner of that race, though, Greg Blevins Jr., who is attempting to win three in a row after also winning the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals in December. Blevins was also the runner-up here last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

DJ McCain is the points leader in ProCharger and Precision Turbo X275 after a runner-up finish at Bradenton last month. Tuned by brother Ryan in the nitrous-fed \u201cVecna\u201d Corvette, he\u2019s trying to hold off Texan Marty Pearcy, who beat McCain in the X275 final round at the U.S. Street Nationals. Contenders also include Stephen Barnett, Chris Taylor, Charles Hull, Alton Clements, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shawn Pevlor and car owner John Kolivas have been throwing down record numbers in Bennett Racing Engines, Mac Fab, and Maxima Racing Oils Ultra Street, but those numbers haven\u2019t put Pevlor in the points lead. That position belongs to U.S. Street Nationals winner Jessie Coulter, who is just ahead of Dave Fiscus, who won the non-points Snowbird Outlaw Nationals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to the Radial Outlaws points classes, Lights Out 16 will include Limited Street 235, 6.00 Index, Open Comp, Nate Prater\u2019s Street Car Braggin Rights, Pro Truck N\/T, N\/T Outlaw 275, and All Steel All Glass (ASAG).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Racers will start testing on Monday, Feb. 17, with qualifying set to begin Wednesday at 4 p.m. Another session will follow at 4 p.m. on Thursday, and the first of two more sessions is set for 10 a.m. on Friday. A potential final qualifier will start Saturday\u2019s action, with round one of eliminations to follow. Eliminations will continue on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
