Reigning world champion Dallas Glenn came to the 72nd annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals with redemption on his mind after a first-round falter in Brainerd, and redemption he found as he earned a coveted NHRA 75th Anniversary Diamond Wally at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. With his first Indy win, Glenn also earned the regular season title and will enter the Countdown to the Championship as the No. 1 seed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would have liked a winner-take-all regular season championship between me and Greg, but it didn\u2019t work out that way,\u201d said Glenn. \u201cI was rooting for him all day long; I didn\u2019t want him to lose. But I set out this morning as a goal that I was going to hold up a trophy at the end of the day. I went up there and tried to stay as calm and focused as I could, but man, this Countdown is going to be a nasty bloodbath.\u201d<\/p>\n
Through five rounds of qualifying, Glenn showed that his KB Titan Racing-powered RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro was powerful and could get the job done, but the stout field in Pro Stock means there is no certainty come raceday. Glenn qualified in the No. 2 position with a crisp 6.574-second pass at 208.01 mph and brought six bonus points along with him as one of the quickest cars.<\/p>\n
A first-round meeting with Mason McGaha proved eventful as the young gun in the other lane made his best pass of the weekend, But Glenn was first off the starting line with a .017-second reaction time and clocked a solid 6.570-second pass at 207.56 to defeat a 6.579, 208.49. Second-round opponent and KB Titan Racing teammate Matt Latino recorded an identical 6.570 in his own first-round meeting and got the tie breaker on speed for lane choice. Glenn\u2019s .030 light to Latino\u2019s .048 was the decider in their match as Latino\u2019s FASS Diesel Solutions Chevrolet was quicker in elapsed time, but the holeshot for Glenn was good for the win, 6.596 to 6.581.<\/p>\n
In the semifinals, Glenn advanced easily on a 6.607, 207.50 as Erica Enders rattled the tires in the other lane, and that sent him ahead to the 46th Pro Stock final round of his career.<\/p>\n
As Glenn was tallying win lights, six-time world champion Greg Anderson, the KB Titan mainstay with whom Glenn has been battling for the championship for three seasons, was doing his best to meet Glenn in the final. In 2024, the season title went to Anderson at the last race of the year, and in 2025, the championship went to Glenn. This season, Glenn led the points for much of the season but Anderson was right there with him, and coming into the U.S. Nationals, Anderson was leading by 85 marks.<\/p>\n
When Anderson fell in the second round at the hands of longtime rival Jeg Coughlin Jr., Glenn had a path to the regular-season championship. Little did he know he would meet Coughlin in the final and have to knock him out in order to seal the deal.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just had to do everything I could to not think about points, not think about it being Indy,\u201d said Glenn. \u201cI just had to think about how Jeggie took me out in Brainerd first round and that I\u2019d really like to get him back. I didn\u2019t want to go up there and do what I did last year and get too light on the pedal, I just had to go up there and be as light as I could, hit the tree as good as I could, hit my shift points, and cross my fingers. Thankfully, [crew chiefs] Dave Connolly and Rob Downing gave me a good setup in the car, and KB Titan gave me good horsepower. Everything worked out the way it was supposed to, and we made a pretty decent run in the final.\u201d<\/p>\n
Coughlin left first in the final, .026 to Glenn\u2019s .033, but at the finish line stripe it was Glenn with a solid 6.599, 207.56 to win the prestigious event and the regular-season championship.<\/p>\n
When the six-race Countdown to the Championship playoffs start at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich., Sept. 18-20, Glenn will be the top dog, followed by Anderson, Greg Stanfield, Matt Hartford, Erica Enders, Matt Latino, Jeg Coughlin Jr., Aaron Stanfield, Cody Anderson, Troy Coughlin Jr., and Eric Latino.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was pretty cool to have almost the entire KB Titan Racing crew up there giving me fist bumps and telling me to go get him before the final,\u201d said Glenn. \u201cThey were all cheering me on. I know Greg really wanted to win this regular season championship, but at the same time, when he loses he wants one of us to win. We definitely wanted to make sure we bring the trophy and all the money back to North Carolina, and I knew my car was capable, but man, there are some fast cars out there. This Countdown is going to be very interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n
