While at DSR, Capps experienced firsthand the advantages of utilizing engine components machined with high-precision OKUMA machine tools, capturing multiple championships and race wins with DSR Performance parts, a longtime OKUMA partner. Capps continued to lean on OKUMA and DSR Performance when he transitioned into team ownership in 2022 and considers the precision and accuracy behind the manufacturing process to be an integral part of his team’s success. Since ‘22, Capps has captured 11 national event wins, eight poles, and the 2022 Funny Car championship aboard the NAPA Auto Care Funny Car.

“I’ve seen firsthand the level of detail that goes into everything Don Schumacher Motorsports does, going all the way back to my DSR days,” said Capps, the current Funny Car points leader, who has already clinched two race wins in three final rounds through the first seven events of the 2026 NHRA season. “At this level, there isn’t much room for error, and the smallest details can make a huge difference. Parts that are machined with OKUMA are known within the industry to be exact and consistent, and that’s one of the reasons we continue to rely on DSR Performance as one of our vendor partners. We know the quality behind the parts machined with OKUMA, and that’s a big part of not only our NAPA team’s success, but the success we’ve seen thus far with Maddi (Gordon) and the Carlyle Tools team. They came out strong right off the bat, with a couple of semifinal finishes and running that 340 (mph run) in Valdosta.”

As part of the alliance, OKUMA will receive increased branding on both Capps’ NAPA Auto Care Funny Car and Gordon’s Carlyle Tools Top Fuel dragster at six events during the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, including this weekend’s NHRA New England Nationals in Epping, N.H. The partnership also includes hosting guests in the Ron Capps Motorsports pitside hospitality pavilion.

Through its DSR Performance Racing Parts division, Don Schumacher Motorsports utilizes OKUMA CNC machine tools to engineer and manufacture high-performance engine blocks, cylinder heads, connecting rods, and other precision components used in championship-caliber racing applications. The advanced machining technology provides the accuracy and repeatability necessary to create complex components with extremely tight tolerances, a critical factor when producing parts built to withstand the demands of 12,000-horsepower nitro competition.

DSM utilizes OKUMA’s advanced four and five-axis machining centers, along with automation and integrated probing technology, to deliver the precision and consistency required to produce parts at the highest level of motorsports competition.

“Ron Capps Motorsports understands that precision is required at all levels to win championships, and OKUMA machine tools are the foundation for their V8 power plant,” said Chad Osier, President of Don Schumacher Motorsports. “The OKUMA machine tool accuracy and repeatability gives us the capability to efficiently manufacture complex components at scale and operate unmanned, utilizing their intuitive automation. Not to mention, OKUMA’s machine tool versatility has allowed us to expand and diversify our business in tractor pulling and production airframe and missile programs.”

Ron Capps Motorsports returns to NHRA competition this weekend at the NHRA New England Nationals, June 5-7, at New England Dragway near Epping, N.H.
