The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series rolls into a brand-new home this weekend for the inaugural NHRA Potomac Nationals presented by JEGS<\/strong> at Maryland International Raceway<\/strong> in Mechanicsville, Md. \u2014 the second of four new events on the 2026 tour and the seventh race of the 75th anniversary season. Top Fuel points leader Shawn Langdon<\/strong> brings momentum off his Chicago win. Antron Brown<\/strong> is back on the East Coast for a hometown run. Funny Car co-leaders Ron Capps<\/strong> and J.R. Todd<\/strong> headline a class that is producing a different winner almost every weekend. Reigning Pro Stock champ Dallas Glenn<\/strong> leads a stacked Pro Stock field, and Richard Gadson<\/strong> tries to fend off Gaige Herrera<\/strong> and Matt Smith<\/strong> in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Storylines to Watch<\/h2>\n

Top Fuel: Langdon\u2019s lead, Brown\u2019s home race, Kalitta\u2019s title defense<\/h3>\n

Chicago winner Shawn Langdon<\/strong> arrives in Maryland with the Top Fuel points lead and three wins in 2026. The biggest threat may be the driver he just beat: four-time world champion Antron Brown<\/strong>, who calls the Mid-Atlantic his East Coast home and is the No. 2 seed in this weekend\u2019s Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge after a runner-up finish at Route 66. Reigning world champion Doug Kalitta<\/strong>, racing legend Tony Stewart<\/strong>, Gainesville winner Josh Hart<\/strong>, Justin Ashley<\/strong>, Leah Pruett<\/strong>, Clay Millican<\/strong>, and rookie Maddi Gordon<\/strong> \u2014 fresh off back-to-back 340-mph runs in Valdosta \u2014 round out a loaded field. Krista Baldwin<\/strong> continues her Top Fuel return.<\/p>\n

Funny Car: Two-way tie at the top, a class that won\u2019t settle<\/h3>\n

Through six races, Funny Car has produced six different winners. Ron Capps<\/strong> (two wins) and past world champ J.R. Todd<\/strong> are tied for the points lead. Four-time champion Matt Hagan<\/strong> sits third. Chicago winner Chad Green<\/strong>, Valdosta winner Jordan Vandergriff<\/strong>, Route 66 runner-up Alexis DeJoria<\/strong>, Jack Beckman<\/strong>, Spencer Hyde<\/strong>, and Austin Prock<\/strong> all enter Maryland with realistic Wally aspirations. Don\u2019t sleep on independent campaigners \u201cNitro\u201d Joe Morrison<\/strong> and Chicago firefighter Chris King<\/strong>, either \u2014 both are in the field.<\/p>\n

Pro Stock: Glenn leads, Hartford pushes, Anderson lurks<\/h3>\n

Reigning world champion Dallas Glenn<\/strong> rides two wins to the points lead. Matt Hartford<\/strong> matches that win total. Six-time champion Greg Anderson<\/strong>, who has the Pomona Wally and a heartbreak red light in the Chicago final, is still very much in the title hunt. Six-time champion Erica Enders<\/strong> heads to MIR after her first No. 1 qualifier since 2024. Chicago winner Aaron Stanfield<\/strong>, Jeg Coughlin Jr.<\/strong>, and T.J. Coughlin<\/strong> round out a class that has been the most predictably stacked in the building since Day 1.<\/p>\n

Pro Stock Motorcycle: Gadson\u2019s grip, Maryland\u2019s hometown rider<\/h3>\n

World champion Richard Gadson<\/strong> leads the points. Gaige Herrera<\/strong>, six-time champ Matt Smith<\/strong>, Angie Smith<\/strong> (the Route 66 runner-up and No. 1 qualifier), John Hall<\/strong>, and Jianna Evaristo<\/strong> are all dangerous. Maryland native Kelly Clontz<\/strong> will have the home crowd. Steve Johnson<\/strong>\u2018s long-running Suzuki program is eager to get the NHRA back to the Mid-Atlantic.
