Ellington made it clear that this program isn\u2019t about quietly blending in.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not just going to be a racing series,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re not just going to bring the Outlaw cars in, run them down the track, and exit. We\u2019re expecting all the theatrics and everything that comes with our brand of racing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those theatrics, Ellington emphasized, aren\u2019t manufactured for television \u2013 they\u2019re rooted in real competition.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody knows the drama and the stuff that\u2019s been in our series \u2013 that\u2019s not made up,\u201d he said. \u201cThat happens in drag racing. It happens in every form of drag racing. It just depends on what they allow you to see, and Street Outlaws allowed you to see it all.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alongside Ellington, the initial lineup includes\u00a0Ryan Martin\u00a0and\u00a0Scott Taylor, three competitors who know each other well \u2013 and who expect that familiarity to evaporate the moment they roll into the water box.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re all buddies right now,\u201d Ellington said with a grin, \u201cbut that stops as soon as we pull into the water box. As soon as that light turns green, I\u2019m letting go of that button and taking the stripe.\u201d<\/p>\n
One of the defining elements of the Outlaw Street Series is the machinery itself. These are steel-roof-and-quarter cars \u2013 not carbon-bodied Pro Mods \u2013 retaining recognizable factory silhouettes that fans instantly connect with. That relatability, Ellington believes, is part of the magic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese cars are something people recognize,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know that car is a Nova. You know that one\u2019s a Camaro. Somebody sitting at home might say, \u2018Hey, I\u2019ve got one of those.\u2019 That matters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Just as important is how the series will integrate into the NHRA race weekend. Outlaw Street competitors will be fully embedded in the event, racing in front of packed grandstands and pitted alongside NHRA\u2019s professional categories. For fans, that means unprecedented access.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you come to an NHRA race, you don\u2019t need a special ticket to come see us,\u201d Ellington said. \u201cCome to the pits. Talk to us. Get autographs. Get merchandise. That interaction with fans is something we care about.\u201d<\/p>\n Ellington stressed that fan engagement won\u2019t be an afterthought \u2013 it\u2019s a promise.<\/p>\n \u201cWe know the only reason we get to do what we do is because of the fans,\u201d he said. \u201cWe try to pay that back. If fans want input, if they want to see certain matchups, I\u2019m game for all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n From NHRA\u2019s side, the partnership represents an effort to reach a new generation of fans while adding another layer of personality-driven storytelling to its national events. With the sanctioning body approaching its 75th anniversary, the timing felt right for both sides.<\/p>\n \u201cWe wanted to bring our fan base to NHRA\u2019s fan base,\u201d Ellington said. \u201cMake it bigger. Make it better. That\u2019s the goal.\u201d<\/p>\n While the full schedule and additional drivers will be announced in the coming weeks, Ellington hinted that the inaugural season could serve as a proving ground, with room to expand in 2027 and beyond. For now, the focus is simple: race hard, put on a show, and let the competition speak for itself.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re racers at heart,\u201d Ellington said. \u201cWe weren\u2019t about to just sit still. This gives us a place to race, gives fans a place to find us, and lets us keep doing what we love \u2013 only now, it\u2019s on one of the biggest stages in the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n And when the Murder Nova pulls into the water box under NHRA lights, Ellington knows exactly what fans should expect.<\/p>\n \u201cPressure\u2019s part of it,\u201d he said. \u201cBut that\u2019s racing.
