On Friday at the Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals, officials at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and\u00a0NHRA\u00a0unveiled a fitting tribute to Las Vegas-area businessman and legendary Pro Stock team owner Ken Black, who recently passed away. The return road in front of the left-side grand stands was officially christened \u201cKen Black Way,\u201d marking the path that the historic KB Titan Racing stable of race cars and their competitors will march down after each run down the racetrack for years to come.

After the \u201cKen Black Way\u201d street sign was revealed, a specially designed KB Titan Racing Pro Stocker \u2014 driven by crew chief Dave Connolly \u2014 pulled forward to make the first pass of the weekend. As a tribute to their beloved leader and coach, the car was outfitted with a design based on the original Vegas General Construction entry that Greg Anderson wheeled in the early days of the team, right down to the original KB Racing logo. Each driver in the KB Titan stable is also running with Ken Black\u2019s name on the window, and each of their cars prominently feature\u00a0the original KB Racing logo. Members of the crew are decked out in vintage KB Racing crew shirts, as well.

For Connolly, driving the Vegas General Construction car is an enormous honor.

\u201cThis is huge,\u201d said the 26-time Pro Stock winner and championship crew chief who made\u00a0his debut in the class in 2003. \u201cThis is probably the biggest honor I\u2019ve had since starting my Pro Stock career. I\u2019ve always had nothing but respect for Ken Black, his wife Judy, and this team that he started. I\u2019m fortunate to have had a great relationship with Ken. He was such a good guy, and he did so much for this sport. He changed the class; there\u2019s no doubt about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reigning and six-time world champion Anderson was tapped by Black in 2002 to lead the way for the then-new KB Racing team, and Black handed the reins to his driver to put together a team that would go on to win 10 world championships and 209 Pro Stock victories (to date).

\u201cThis is unreal,\u201d said Anderson, looking up at the freshly revealed street sign named for his friend and former\u00a0team owner, and with Ken\u2019s wife, Judy,\u00a0by his side. \u201cEverybody knows I would not be out here today if it wasn\u2019t for Ken Black. This entire KB team would not be here, and Pro Stock wouldn\u2019t be what it is today. I owe everything to them, Ken and Judy. They\u2019re family to me and this entire team, and to be able to honor Ken like this is just awesome. He would be so proud looking at that sign. We miss the heck out of him, but we\u2019re going to keep digging in his memory and acting like he is right here on the grounds with us this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n
