Bradenton Motorsports Park owner and Pro Mod driver\u00a0Victor Alvarez\u00a0is teaming up with longtime friend and accomplished racer\u00a0Troy Pirez Jr.\u00a0to debut their newly acquired\u00a0X275 Ford Mustang\u00a0at\u00a0Donald Long\u2019s No Mercy 16: United We Stand, taking place this weekend at\u00a0South Georgia Motorsports Park.<\/p>\n

The car, originally owned and built by\u00a0John Kolivas of KBX Performance, has a proven pedigree in small-tire competition and will now see action under the Alvarez\u2013Pirez banner. The duo purchased the car recently and are making their debut with it at one of the most storied events in radial tire racing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m fired up about teaming up with Troy to do this,\u201d said Alvarez. \u201cWe\u2019ve done a lot of racing together and love the action in X275. And getting to work with John Kolivas on it, having him help us with tuning the car \u2013 that\u2019s huge. We\u2019re going to try and hit the ground running this weekend at Duck\u2019s No Mercy 16.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Pirez, the return to X275 represents a full-circle moment. He and his father were among the earliest adopters of the class, competing and winning in some of the first-ever X275 races more than 15 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was there from the start with my dad, racing some of the first X275 events,\u201d said Pirez. \u201cTo come back now and race it again \u2013 and to do it with Vic and KBX \u2013 that\u2019s really special. The class has grown and evolved, but it\u2019s still alive and well, still supported by hardcore racers, and that\u2019s awesome to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mustang was originally spec\u2019d for Ultra Street competition but will now be configured for\u00a0X275, where the pair plans to chase the\u00a0Radial Tire Racing Association (RTRA) championship\u00a0beginning with the U.S. Street Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park in January. KBX\u2019s Kolivas \u2013 one of the most respected tuners and builders in small-tire racing \u2013 will continue to play an integral role in the car\u2019s setup and performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t have done this deal without John and the KBX team being part of it,\u201d Pirez added. \u201cWe\u2019re not just buying a car \u2013 we\u2019re investing in the relationship, the knowledge, and everything that comes with being under the KBX umbrella.\u201d<\/p>\n

Testing for the new combination began this week in Valdosta as Alvarez and Pirez prepare for their first official qualifying session on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
