<\/p>\nWorld Wide Technology Raceway has treated three-time Funny Car champion Ron Capps well over the years, something he hopes to replicate at this weekend\u2019s NAPA Auto Parts NHRA Midwest Nationals for multiple reasons.<\/p>\n
A victory would keep him alive in the loaded Funny Car championship chase and the addition of NAPA Auto Parts \u2013 Capps\u2019 longtime sponsor \u2013 as the title sponsor of the race adds another layer of motivation as well.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s done well in St. Louis in recent seasons, advancing to the final round in each of the last three years at the standout facility in his 12,000-horsepower NAPA Auto Car Toyota GR Supra. Capps remains the winningest Funny Car driver in St. Louis history, winning four times at World Wide Technology Raceway, but his last victory came in 2017.<\/p>\n
Capps, who enters the weekend third in points and 98 points back of reigning champ Austin Prock, would love to change that and pull closer to Prock in the process.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s such a great racing community in the area,\u201d Capps said. \u201cThe weather is looking like we\u2019re going to have great conditions throughout the weekend. It\u2019s a big event and it\u2019s close enough to Indy where it\u2019s somewhat of a home race for the crew members since it\u2019s only a few hours away. We\u2019ve hovered in the top three in points, moved to second for a brief point in time last weekend, and now of course, we\u2019re heading to a race that is being sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, I love this race for all those reasons and especially the fact that we\u2019ve got such a great NAPA Auto Care Funny Car right now. To have the performance we did last weekend, it makes it very exciting to go to these next few events. I\u2019m hoping we can at least repeat what we\u2019ve done there in the past this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last season, Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), Jack Beckman (Funny Car), Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) each claimed wins, and this year\u2019s race will once again be broadcast on FS1, with elimination coverage airing at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 28. It is the 17th of 20 races during the 2025 NHRA season and the third of six playoff races, marking the halfway point of the championship chase.<\/p>\n
Capps is looking forward to racing in front of what will be another packed house in St. Louis, but he also knows there\u2019s work to be done to try and track down Prock. The veteran is after his first victory since June and his first win in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs since his championship season in 2022.<\/p>\n
To do that, he\u2019ll also have to get past the likes of four-time champ Matt Hagan, who is second in points, Beckman, Paul Lee, Reading winner Cruz Pedregon, Daniel Wilkerson and top rookie Spencer Hyde. Consistency remains the name of the game in the playoffs, though, and Capps knows if he can continue to go rounds, a fourth championship is very much within reach.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile some things stay the same, there have certainly been a lot of changes going into the third race of the Countdown this season, compared to years past,\u201d Capps said. \u201cFor us, we always look forward to heading to World Wide Technology Raceway. We\u2019ve been in the final round there the last three years in a row, and while those weren\u2019t wins, they certainly show the consistency of our race team. This is the part of the year where you have to have that consistency.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Top Fuel race is a heated one, as Doug Kalitta holds a small advantage over Charlotte winner Justin Ashley, Shawn Langdon and regular-season champion Tony Stewart. Others to watch include Clay Millican and Britany Force, who is set to retire from full-time racing at the end of 2025.<\/p>\n
Glenn won last season\u2019s race in St. Louis and he\u2019ll look to win his third straight race in the playoffs after a perfect start thus far in 2025. Reigning champ and KB Titan Racing teammate Greg Anderson, six-time champ Erica Enders, who has six St. Louis wins, Aaron Stanfield and Matt Hartford will look to stop Glenn\u2019s streak.<\/p>\n
Herrera won his second consecutive St. Louis race last season, defeating Chase Van Sant in the final round. Herrera won the regular season championship after winning five races, but John Hall opened the Countdown to the Championship with the win and Richard Gadson moved into the points lead with his Charlotte victory.<\/p>\n
The NAPA Auto Parts NHRA Midwest Nationals also will feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, as well as the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, Flexjet NHRA Factory Stock Showdown, Holley EFI Factory X and Johnson\u2019s Horsepowered Garage Mountain Motor Pro Stock. It is the final race of the season in Factory Stock Showdown and Mountain Motor Pro Stock.<\/p>\n
Fans will be invited to the Nitro Alley Stage, which hosts Nitro School, meet and greets, music and more. Race fans at World Wide Technology Raceway can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce and celebrate each driver racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. The final can\u2019t-miss experience of any NHRA event is the winner\u2019s circle celebration on Sunday after racing concludes, where fans are invited to congratulate the St. Louis event winners.<\/p>\n
As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. Fans can see their favorite teams in action and servicing their hot rods between rounds, get autographs from their favorite NHRA drivers, and more. NHRA Mission Food Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 5 and 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 26, and the final two rounds on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 12:15 and 3 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 28. Television coverage includes qualifying action on FS1 at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday and then eliminations coverage starting at 3 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
