Travis “The Carolina Kid” Harvey took on the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by Motion Racworks – the inaugural race of the Drag Illustrated Winter Series presented by J&A Service – with grit and determination to take on the baddest Pro Mod drivers on the planet.
The Snowbirds featured the quickest 32-car Pro Mod field in history, and Harvey successfully locked in a No. 28 qualifying spot with a 3.642-second pass at 206.89 mph, driving the Redd Topp Motorsports screw-blown Camaro.
While his performance was sharp, Harvey’s day ended in round three after a side-by-side showdown against Ken Quartuccio, who went on to finish as runner-up at the event. Quartuccio’s advantage on the starting line (.016 vs. .067 reaction time) ultimately made the difference, despite Harvey running a competitive 3.626-second pass at 208.46 mph.
Harvey, however, remains focused and optimistic heading into the second stop on the Winter Series tour – the U.S. Street Nationals presented by M&M Transmission.
Harvey shared his thoughts on the event, highlighting the magnitude of competing in such a historic Pro Mod showdown.
“First, I want to thank Wes [Buck], Victor [Alvarez], and everyone involved to make Snowbirds a great event,” shared Harvey. “Qualifying for the baddest Pro Mod race in history was a win, but we want more. We’re working hard, and hopefully, our performance will shine at the next race.”
Facing a formidable opponent like Quartuccio is never easy, but Harvey respects the challenge.
“Ken is one of the best out there, and the Scott Tidwell Racing cars are always fast,” said Harvey. “I knew we had to run good and I had to do my job to beat him, but we came up short. You can’t give those guys anything, or you will lose. We’ll have something for them the next time we line up.”
In addition to competing in the headlining Pro Mod class, “The Carolina Kid” also competed in the Florida N/T Racing No Time Shootout. Harvey piloted NPK star Justin Swanstrom’s no-time Lexus RC-F, dubbed “Prenup,” in which he had seen success in earlier in the 2024 season.
Harvey also addressed how he stays mentally sharp and ready while jumping between two cars.
“The main thing is to stay focused on the task at hand. You have to forget about what just happened or what’s going on with the other car. Know your role and try to be perfect,” he chuckled.
With the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals in the books, Harvey is ready to bring the heat at the U.S. Street Nationals. Fans can expect nothing less than the determination and competitive fire that make “The Carolina Kid” a force to be reckoned with on the Winter Series stage.
