There’s something special brewing in the world of Top Fuel drag racing, and it’s coming from a humble gooseneck trailer in Ellington, CT. ScottRod Racing, helmed by husband-and-wife team Scott Farley and Michelle Torromeo, is adding another chapter to drag racing’s rich tradition of passionate privateers stepping up to compete in the sport’s ultimate category.
Scott’s path to Top Fuel racing wasn’t paved with gold – it was built with sweat equity and midnight oil. By day, he pilots MD-11 cargo planes across the skies, but his real passion ignites when he straps into the cockpit of his Top Fuel dragster. Back in 2017, the folks at Drag Racing Scene didn’t call him “Mr. DIY” for nothing. Scott earned that nickname the hard way, turning a pile of chromoly tubing and a bolt of carbon fiber into a full-blown Pro-Mod with his own two hands.
“Every time we pull through the gates, we’re living our dream,” Scott explains. “This sport has such an amazing heritage of racers who built their own cars and chased their dreams. Every part we bolt on, every run we make, it’s about carrying on that tradition.”
The 2024 season threw everything but the kitchen sink at ScottRod Racing. When their trailer got sideswiped, Scott and Michelle didn’t call in a custom trailer shop – they grabbed their tools and, with help from two close friends, stripped the wrecked trailer and built out the replacement trailer themselves. The season might’ve ended with more bumps than victories, but that just lit a fire under Scott’s welding helmet.
“The minute we got home from Maple Grove, that dragster came apart,” Scott explains. “With the new NHRA rules for 2025, I knew I had work to do. So I did what I always do – fired up the tig welder and got to work. There’s something special about having your own hands on every part of the car.”
For the 2025 season, ScottRod Racing is targeting five NHRA national events, kicking off at the legendary Gatornationals in March. Their gooseneck trailer might be smaller than most rigs in the pits, but it carries just as much passion for the sport.
Michelle, who balances team management with her own full-time career, adds, “This sport was built by innovators like Don Garlits and Eddie Hill who weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. That’s the tradition we’re proud to carry on, and I can hardly wait until we roll into our hometown track for New England Nationals in May.”
The 2025 campaign represents more than just racing – it’s about keeping alive the spirit that built drag racing from the ground up. ScottRod Racing might be the newest privateers on the scene, but they’re carrying forward a proud tradition that’s been part of Top Fuel since the beginning.
