The WDRA Summit Bracket Finals presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance completed its 2025 season at the beautiful GALOT Motorsports Park for the Southeast installation of the series. Teams of drivers from several racetracks competed, with the Team Championship honors staying at the home track: 55 points for the home track, followed by Greer Dragway with 47. Farmington Dragway and Coastal Plains Dragway tied with 45 points, with the remaining ranks including Mooresville Dragway (36), Ware Shoals Dragway (35), South Carolina Motorplex (25), Piedmont Dragway (25), Cherokee Race Park (10), Wilkesboro Dragway (8), and Kinston Dragstrip rounding out the standings.
Thursday featured a test-and-tune session, a complimentary pizza party, a Team Captains Race, and a pit vehicle race. Farmington Dragway swept the eliminations with Jerald Ayers earning the Team Captains win and Justin Holston winning the pit vehicle race in a wheel-standing golf cart over Cody Spears (Greer Dragway).
All entrants received a time trial on Friday before the top representatives from each track competed during the Fuel Factory Race of Champions. Chris Tapp from Greer Dragway secured the .019 margin of victory in the with a .017 total package over Robert Vogler III from Farmington. Jim Wood used a .010 reaction time to claim the No Box win for Ware Shoals over Richard Alford, Jr from GALOT. South Carolina Motorplex claimed the Junior Dragster prize over Ware Shoals when Ethan Santmyer took the .022 margin of victory over Christian Brashier. Leonard Cherry (Coastal Plains) ran dead on his 7.40 dial-in, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the .028 bulb of Cherokee racer, Dustin Dean, who earned the Sportsman class win. Hunter Alexander took home the Teen Racing trophy while representing Mooresville when Braxton Hubbard (Coastal Plains) turned on the red light.
Braxton Hubbard redeemed himself in the Teen Gamblers Race on Friday when Faith Mitchell left two thousandths too soon while representing South Carolina Motorplex. Curfew forced a split between the remaining competitors in the Friday Gamblers race classes.
All winners were crowned in the Saturday Gamblers Races, with representatives from Mooresville Dragway making up 50% of the total finalists. Chris Tapp (Greer) returned to the winner’s circle in the Box class, taking the double-breakout win over Dylan Champion from GALOT. Joe Foley (Mooresville) rolled straight into eliminations without a time trial and eventually left with the No Box win when Justin Holston (Farmington) illuminated the red light by eight thousandths. It was an all-Mooresville Junior Dragster final round with Aus Danner Jr earning the win with a .006 reaction time beside the red-light of Autumn Adkins. Both drivers turned on the red bulb in the Sportsman final, but Mooresville’s Camrun Stevens launched first, where the win light shines in Ronnie Forrester’s lane (Greer). The Teen class was a repeat of the Race of Champions, with Hunter Alexander (Mooresville) using a better reaction time to take the win over Braxton Hubbard from Coastal Plains.
In the Southeast division, all the anticipation boils over on Sunday, where the Main Event is contested and drivers have the opportunity to claim cash, a WDRA Rod Trophy, a WDRA Champion Card, and an invitation to the WDRA World Championships (if qualified). The home team squared off in the $5,000 top bulb final round, where Daniel Morton had the better reaction time but broke out one thousandth beside Austin Thompson, who ran one above his 4.77 dial-in to earn the Box Championship. Brian Yerger, Jr, put together a .047 total package to seal the deal for Farmington in the $5K No Box class, while Tommy Duff from Coastal Plains was left mathematically ineligible. South Carolina Motorplex’s Trey Sikes secured the Sportsman Championship when his .008 red light didn’t matter because Camrun Stevens (Mooresville) had left the starting line first with a red light of his own. Tristian Brown used a .029 reaction time to earn the $1,000 Junior Dragster Championship while representing Farmington, while Pheyton Rawlins (Piedmont) broke out at the finish line. Hunter Alexander claimed his third Teen Racing victory of the weekend (Mooresville) with a green light reaction time beside Faith Mitchell (South Carolina Motorplex), who had to settle for runner-up honors with the red light start.
Every region brings a multitude of beautiful hot rods, and the Southeast Best Appearing Awards went to Bubba Paschal (Open Bodied), Phillip Bullock (Full Bodied), and Greyson Atwood (Junior Dragster) from Piedmont, GALOT, and Ware Shoals, respectively. Coastal Plains Dragway claimed the Best Team Spirit award courtesy of their Mario theme, while Farmington Dragway’s barnyard was dubbed the Best Decorated Grandstand, and Mooresville Dragway earned the Best Appearing Team award.
