Brett LaSala is just one step away from becoming a two-times Sick Week champion after setting a new drag-and-drive track record at Gainesville Raceway on Friday.
The Snot Rocket 3.0 Ford Mustang hot-footed to a 6.225 run, smashing the existing track record of 6.452 held by Sweden’s Michael Westberg. All records in drag-and-drive are dependent on the entrant also finishing the event, and so far, the Coyote-platform machine of LaSala is looking solid. His 6.282 average is on track to best his 2024 average of 6.340, also a Sick Week record.
“Once you make a good run and hand in your slip on day four you can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “It was a great run for Gainesville, the track crew did an amazing job and the car just wants more.”
For day four of competition at Sick Week 2025 Presented By Gear Vendors Overdrive, the Gainesville Raceway surface was prepared by a team that included TVC, VP Racing Fuels and the Orlando Speed World and Gainesville Raceway track crews. Event-bests were delivered for a number of the top drivers including Modified leader Josh Davis (6.372), Unlimited iron number one Graham Hayes (6.505), Pro Street’s top racer Glenn Hunter (6.933) and Super Street flyer Bob Hess Jr (7.338).
The world of drag-and-drive can see fortunes rapidly change and two leading contenders are out of Sick Week 2025 after their luck faded. Bryant Goldstone was fourth overall and chasing down third until his motor kicked a rod on the start line, while Stefan Gustafsson is also believed to be out after an oil pump belt broke at full throttle on his motor during a run.
For those who survived, the shortest drive of the week (127 miles) awaited as the field returned to host track South Georgia Motorsports Park for the final day of competition. The route took competitors into the town of Lake City, where the streets were closed off to allow them to cruise past official checkpoint Halpatter Brewing. Many local fans turned out to enjoy the show of the world’s quickest street cars alongside live music, all in the historic downtown area.
Day five of Sick Week 2025 Presented By Gear Vendors Overdrive takes place at South Georgia Motorsports Park today (February 1) with racing from 11am to 5pm.
