Fastest Street Car in America! Meet 5-Time Drag Week Winner Larry Larson – HOT ROD Unlimited Ep 40

HOT ROD Drag Week is the world’s most brutal test of a real street/strip car, requiring the cars to drive 1,200-plus miles in one week while racing five days in a row at four different tracks. Larry Larson has done the impossible, winning five times in a row in his ’66 Chevy Nova that has been as quick as 6.94 seconds in the quarter mile at 200-plus mph. This ranks as one of the most impressive feats in all of motorsports, and has earned the Nova the title of HOT ROD Magazine’s Fastest Street Car in America. In this episode of HOT ROD Unlimited, meet the humble chassis builder from Oak Grove, Missouri, who makes it happen.

HOT ROD Unlimited appears every other Friday on the Motor Trend channel.

  1. this went down hill after hotrod bought out NMCA where we had to have all steel bodies and real glass limited to what could be fiberglass or carbon
went from real street cars to full blown tube chassis race cars
knocked the little guys like my self out of the game

  2. If it aint steel it aint real ! all the fiberglass stuff is lighter and goes faster till they run into some football player basketball or baseball player. with pockets deep enough to build the entire car out of carbon fiber.

  3. The man is a Craftsman and Honorable Style….oh also not quick but Awesome Fast! There I am loving being quick easy 9's and if nothing breaks good track 8.90's . But I'll be happy driving ever week to Kroger for groceries with my handicap tag and enjoying life at the end of my days. I love seeing all these drag week cars and the same for the guy down the road who loves his used parts shade tree built hot rod. I miss those days and still do everything I can under the old pecan tree I help plant 59 yrs ago! Great Video Thank You!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡

  4. Classy guy with tons of technical knowledge & the one thing that sets these guys & they're cars apart from us normal folk…..dollars. . . If you don't have the money, you just can't compete in this category, as well as many others. It's cool to see them achieving the speed that they do today. Just give me my warmed-over stocker, and a nice warm summer day with the windows down, and I'll drive around in that and not worry about the dollars or the big numbers at the track

  5. I love David Freiburgers story about Larry at the first Drag Week. "If nitrous racers get free nitrous, how come I don't get free racing gas?"
