Who’s ready for a two-way Audi showdown!

Mat’s got his hands on the Audi R8 V10 Performance Spyder, and he’s facing off against a 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1 Group B rally car!!

Let’s take a look at how these Audis compare. Starting with the R8, it’s powered by a mid-mounted 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that can put down 620hp & 580Nm of torque. It drives all four wheels, and it tips the scales at just under 1,700kg. It’s also pretty pricey, with a starting price of £162,000!

But trust us, that’s nothing compared to the rally car, which has been insured to a value of £1,700,000!! In terms of power, its engine is certainly smaller than the R8’s, with a 2.1-litre 5-cylinder turbo under the bonnet that’s good for 500hp & 480Nm. It’s also equipped with all-wheel drive, though, and it’s certainly lighter than the R8, weighing in at 1,090kg.

So the R8 is more powerful, but will the difference in weight push the Quattro rally car to victory? There’s only one way to find out – LET’S RACE!

  22. Not really an achievement to beat the 80's car in a straight line. Try the race around a proper circuit and the old car will win – and Steve really knows how to drive. Just sayin Matt…

  35. These videos are great fun to watch, BUT PLEASE get some lights sorted with random start timing. The Quattro driver twice went early as he could see the guys arms moving, and this happens all the time on all the vids. When you're putting in some much effort to get these cars to race it's astonishing you don't have any LED start lights to ensure some level of parity between results. Without it, the results are almost meaningless, and which is a real shame and so easily rectified….But the starting 'green' light has to be randomly timed, and the cars GPS/datalog linked to the start lights, or it'll be the same issue again.
