Jamie Schoenly’s 1972 Ford Maverick Grabber was purchased brand new by his late father Randy in 1972 and became an all out drag car in the early 80s. A wonderful tribute, the car is fresh off a 4 year hiatus and blasted its quickest ETs and highest wheelies this past weekend at Cecil County Dragway.

Bobby, pardon my lack of knowledge in class racing but why run the 289 vs 302?
Nice car and story to go with it, thanks Bobby.
Cool story.
Very nice car.
Runs very impressive.
Thanks for sharing ๐.
Being a former Maverick racer, I don't miss the shock towers. Used to have swivels, different length extensions to inspect/change plugs. But that's a nice-looking Maverick. # carshow!
Like your car, had a 1974 with a near identical color and stripes. Tan interior, 302 with c4 Trans, and epa power robbing trash. I liked my car, but one night with my bud's ended with a roll over, took it away.
Beautiful Car !!!
When did NHRA reduce the hp on the 210 hp 289?
Out in the shop I stalling my Grabber on my 73 as I watch this!! Hope to be back at the track myself soon.
Neato!! Clearly one of those cars that was never really thought of a "racy" type of car when it came, but drag racers always seem to find a way to make something way cool. I'm new here and trying to finish up my first racer. 85 Camaro 305 IJK/A.. I live in Denver, CO. Everybody here is pretty bummed about losing Bandimere. If anybody cares, I started making calls and asking around about Great Bend. I posted a follow up on that situation on the Tuesday night live show post. It's kind of a screwed up deal and there is a lot going on with that deal, so I tried to trim it down as much as possible but you should be able to understand what's going on if anybody wants to read it.
Great story and a cool car. Thanks Bobby.๐
Awesome car ๐
Stock was a 302 – 2BL yikes, now a โ64 289 โฆ fun ride ! I ran a โ66 289 Ranchero โฆ but in AHRA
Love those Mavericks still have my โ70 with a 351W. Shock towers are pain in the butt. Used small tube blackjacks at first now have custom made ones. Most non- Ford people donโt realize that the 351W are wider & taller than the 289/302 blocks but they can use the same cylinder heads. 8.2โ deck motors fit a whole lot of better in these cars if you are staying with the stock shock towers.
I thought I recognized that car. I've been to Maple Grove several times when the division 1 bracket finals were there
Great to see racing Mavericks.
Just a tad bit of pre-load in the right ladder bar and it will go straighter. The 1964.5/1965 โDโ code 289/210/203 is less HP than the 289/225 because of less OEM compression. This is a very nice car and great story!
good luck Jamie ! miss you at the races
Didn't 64 have a different bellhouse bolt pattern than 65.
I don't understand how 203 h.p. can co 10:85 super stock 427 Ford galaxie went about 12:00 s
Very humble Man, And Awesome car!
A friend had a 70 maverick he raced , great race cars ! ๐๐ป
You think those shock towers are tight. The pinto is a nightmare for headers compared to that
In the early 80's, lotta Mustangs few Mavericks, we had one at Island with the Original Comp Cams Solid lifter 336 advertised duration 650 lift. A real Rev'r! We were all 12's (H/ET) when this guy cracked the 11's. Later 80's Ray Knights 10s. You guys really getting it w/your trans brakes & newer cams! Thx Tire Diameter & Gear, the math not get 9000 RPM s. They run good shift 7500+500 thru traps?!. Thx share & Cheers! jj 289 Tr-4
Nice! Very nice!
Very very very beautiful car always liked the Maverick very clean and mean ๐ thanks for the content great as usual
302 small block
Me and my dad used to take his maverick mudd riding I was probably 10 years old and would drive him down the backroads while he was drinking probably not that smart but that was back when men were men.
Nothing like a ford
Love this thing!โค๐Wanna build me a Nostalgia Pro Stock Pinto!๐ค๐พ๐
Think I saw this car at a house on county line Rd near Grandview, did it used to be towed with a van on a open trailer back in the 80s ?
Not a fan of the diarrhea brown, but otherwise love it!
I was there when his Pop brought the car back home from the dealership. It was in the garage under the Luggage Shop. Papa Kriebs was there giving ๐ข on the modifications that started the car on its path to racing. His grandparents were my God parents.
